Peppercorn has been in business for 47 years. On April 3, 2020 Hal Covert became the second successor purchasing the store from Ashley Sucking and Cindy Williams. Ashley and Cindy were the first successorship taking on the business as a strong mother-daughter team, they were passionate advocates for a natural and organic lifestyle and applied their innovative thinking to find the newest products in the health and wellness market. The original owners, Deanna, Maggie and Lorrie opened the natural food market to support local, fair-trade and organic wherever possible and striving to offer the best ingredients and the best price.
Throughout the years and the owners all values have been passed down, each has held themselves to the same standard of greatness and we promise to do just the same keeping their values at heart while supporting local businesses and farms. We will keep the variety of bulk options, health foods, and dietary restrictive options as well. Additionally we will continue to offer a wide range of natural supplements homeopathic remedies along with the all natural personal care products.
Our main goal at Peppercorn is to locally source as many products as possible to give back to the community and in hopes of positively contributing to the local economy.
We gladly will take recommendations of things you would like to see us carry and if possible we will strive to fulfill any and all special orders that you request. The new successorship of Peppercorn belongs to Hal Covert, a farmer and family man from Piermont, New Hampshire. Hal owns and operates his own farm in Piermont and works alongside numerous other local farmers as a team to ensure the success of their harvests. Hal has owned his farm since 1997 and has been working in the agriculture industry since 1984. He is dedicated to delivering natural wholesome food to the people of our community at the lowest cost possible, because everyone deserves to eat good and feel good.
Below is a little piece of history, a letter written by the three ladies who created Peppercorn.
“In 1997 when our business was bursting at the seams in our small space, we purchased our building from the landlord (we might have driven him out… sorry Pete!), had some renovations done to the building and were able to add some additional cooler and freezer space. In 2000 we had our picture window removed (on the coldest day in January, what were we thinking?!) so we could move in a cooler that would allow us to add organic produce to the store. (Don’t look up, there’s still a scrape in the ceiling from where we tried to stand up the cooler).
We (Maggie, Lorrie and Deanna) balance our time at Peppercorn with many other interests including cooking, gardening, skiing, biking, sewing and family. If we aren’t at Peppercorn you can find Maggie making maple syrup or pruning blueberries, Lorrie perusing the thrift stores for finds for costumes or crafts and Deanna out birdwatching or gardening. (And no, none of us are related…)
We have remained committed to providing natural and organic products for the community. We support local, fair-trade and organic wherever possible. We search for the best ingredients at the best price.
We appreciate our clientele, if it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t be here! If you haven’t visited us we hope you will stop by.
Thank you,
Maggie, Lorrie and Deanna"
